Cross for the Unforgiven by Houston artist Mel Chin: AK-47 assault rifles (cut and welded), via gaksdesigns. From the artist:
Cross for the Unforgiven was made in 2003. Asked for eight AK-47s from the local country store. They asked, “What youens gonna do, start a War?” I responded there was one going on already and I was going to make a sculpture. Deathly silence followed but they figured a way for me to purchase all eight that day.
[…] the Kalashnikovs, a new International Symbol of Resistance to the West, formed this Maltese Cross from times of the Crusades, now eternally welded in opposition.
